A vicar, a policeman and a football coach walked into a club…….

It may sound like the beginning of a joke but it is actually true.  MTV YOUTH began with the help of three locals: PCSO Marek Regan, football coach Nick Neilan and Rev David Lloyd from St Mary’s Church.   They were all seeking to provide something local and immediate for the young people in Hampton, particularly in and around the Oldfield Road Estate and the South of Hampton. Since the Club has opened its doors on 28th October 2011 our reach has extended throughout Hampton, working with well over 250+ children.

MTV YOUTH  started life at the Oldfield Centre, now St.Mary's Hampton Primary School. Clubs nights run on Friday nights during term time for children aged between 8 and 14 allowing the children to enjoy activities such as football, basketball, crafts, skating, pool, table football, XBOX 360 and Wii. In addition we run special events throughout the year. Through this the 250+ children that have attended Club since we began have enjoyed workshops on diverse experiences ranging from rapping & drumming workshop with visiting rappers ‘Simbadfresh’ and ‘Jimmy Danger’ via Tennis lessons, science experiments and crafts to Chocolate making & baking/cooking.

Since the club began it has grown in size and besides rapping and writing, the children have enjoyed drumming with dustbins, spray art, football, basketball, crafts, skating, pool, table football, XBOX 360 and Wii.  The club is greatly helped by the administration support of Penny Dimond and countless other committed volunteers.

The club was officially launched on 28th October 2011 with a Pumpkin Party.  Three local Councillors were in attendance along with the local police Sergeant to celebrate the positive work that all the thirty volunteers from St Mary’s and the wider community had achieved through time and energy.

Having been around for over 2 years we are excited about continuing the work of the club and its facilities into the new year and are now partnering with YMCA to enable us to provide a better experience to the youngster of Hampton.   We are grateful for the funding from Hampton Fuel Allotment Charity, Hampton Traders, Waitrose, Hallite and St Mary’s Church.  Thank you to Bertie Morse of RHP, HYP, YMCA and Heatham House for their continued advice and support.
